An icon of Singapore...

We were shocked to receive the news on the passing away of Singapore's most iconic opposition leader, Mr Joshua Benjamin Jeyaretnam (5 January 1926 - 30 September 2008). Many fondly remembered him as JBJ. My father is one of his fans. Although, he doesn't read alot of English, he bought his book when Mr JBJ was selling them outside Centerpoint. My father loves him for his 'never-say-die' fighting attitude.

I have always have great respect and admiration for anyone, whether they are just commoners or some great leaders, who stood and fought hard for their beliefs, their ideals, their values. Outsiders may not think well of them but it is personal and it is what they believe in and it is what they want to do in their lifetime. Many go through life just sitting on the fence and watch, being an armchair critic...before they know it, it's time to say good-bye and realise their life just passed on without doing much. It is not how much they have accomplished in their lifetime, it is not about counting the number of awards that they have recieved...it is about how fulfilled they have led their lives.

I have always remember a plague which I once saw. "If you don't stand for anything, you will fall for everything."
