Keeping the tradition

It's the mid-autumn festival also known as the mooncake festival. Chinese all over the world celebrate this festival. Adults will be eating mooncakes and these cakes go very well with Chinese tea. The kids will be taking their lanterns and having fun.

This festival is celebrated on the 15th day of the 8th month of the Lunar calendar.

The few Singaporeans living here has gathered to keep this tradition alive. It was also a good time to help Kai and Ann remember this Chinese festival. My father-in-law often talked about Chinese ought to know their roots. One of the ways, was to remember all these festivals. As Chinese, we ought to feel proud that we are very rich in our cultures and traditions.

Even the farmer at the farmstay, when he knew we are from Singapore, he reminded us that Chinese will be a big deal in the years to come. At hubby's company, there is an American man (not young) who speaks perfect Chinese with his Chinese counterparts!

A different kind of mid-autumn festival

A group of us gathered to celerate the mid-auntum festival in a very different way!

Getting the bar-b-q ready, using the primitive way

Not just a bar-b-q but also a picnic

We cannot missed out th lanterns. One of the Singaporean lady was really nice, when she knew that one colleague was coming over for a meeting, she got him to buy lanterns for the kids. So thoughtful of her.

Three men and a lantern. It was windy and it took three grown men to light up a little lantern

Finally, the lanterns were lighted

Time for exploration with the lanterns

The skyline was beautiful that night...and the full moon came out too!

Mooncakes from US of A

It was not the end, we had a bonfire and bar-b-q marshmellows...

What a way to celebrate the mid-autumn festival. The kids will surely rememeber this very memorable time.
